The University of Wisconsin-Superior Symphonic Band, under the direction of Steven Siegel, along with the Chamber Strings, under the direction of Erin Aldridge, will join forces for a concert. Featuring a variety of genres and styles, the concert will include composers such as Grainger, Copland, Coleridge-Taylor, Shostakovich, Hazo, Sheldon, Meechan and Nishimura. The University of Wisconsin-Superior Music Department hosts talented high school singers from throughout Wisconsin and Minnesota for its Chorfest High School Honor Choir Festival. Chorfest provides more than 90 students the opportunity to perform choral masterworks with an orchestra in an honor-choir setting, as well as to work with conductors and voice teachers. This University Recital Series performance is a chance to share cherished musical pieces. The musicians will perform Duo for Flute and Piano by Aaron Copland and also feature Fantasie Pastorale Hongroise, Op. 26 by Albert Franz Doppler and the large-scale, four-movement work Sonata in C# Minor by French composer Mel Bonis. The UW_Superior Symphonic Band and Percussion Ensemble performance will feature two Caribbean-style steel drum ensemble pieces by Texas-based composer, CJ Menje. Other pieces will include a traditional Mexican marimba ensemble piece “Las Tripas,” music from Ghana as preparation for the Music Department’s upcoming trip to Ghana in January, “Metallic Lullaby” by Eric Peel, and a large percussion ensemble composition exploring various percussive sounds and timbre written by Jones entitled “Water Nymphs.”

The University of Wisconsin-Superior Music Department will present its Choir Concert, Threads of Joy, in Thorpe Langley Auditorium. The concert will feature a wide variety of music including a motet by Felix Mendelssohn, a setting of “Loch Lomond,” a Ghanian folk song, gospel music and musical excerpts from the upcoming UW-Superior Music and Theatre Department production of the opera “La Cenerentola." The University of Wisconsin-Superior Music Department presents Hector Landa, assistant professor of piano, for its University Recital Series. The program begins with Mexican music, featuring the works of a diverse group of composers. Landa presents a composition written by French composer Luc Ferrari, a suite of 36 miniatures written for piano and a recorded track. The UW-Superior Music Alumni Concert features nearly 20 alumni and UW-Superior choir, band, orchestra, percussion, opera workshop and jazz ensembles as well as solo performances from current music faculty. The College of St. Scholastica String Orchestra and University of Wisconsin-Superior Orchestra present a joint concert featuring works by José Lafitte, Alla Pavlova, Edvard Grieg and Radiohead. Tickets are $5 for adults, $3 for seniors and free for students.

UW-Superior Music Department will host more than 80 of the best high school musicians from throughout the region for its Honors Orchestra Festival. The event will conclude with a public performance featuring both the high school Honor Orchestra and University Orchestra.
