The Kaustinen area in Finland has produced generations of pelimmanit (folk fiddlers, kantele players, pump organists, and accordionists). Several of the fiddlers were also prolific composers. This workshop features tunes that first-generation Swedish-immigrant musicians brought with them to Minnesota in the late 1800s to early 1900s. These tunes continue to be popular and played at stämma in Sweden today. Renee Vaughan is currently the Musician-in-Residence at the University of Wisconsin-Madison, Nordic Folklife.
