April 30 marks the 56th anniversary of the 1967 tragic loss of the three Halverson teen brothers who were swept from the Duluth Ship Canal during a storm, along with the U.S Coast Guardsman who tried to save them. The Twin Ports Ministry to Seafarers is hosting its annual Blessing of the Port at the Lake Superior Maritime Visitor Center. The event will include a 2023 shipping season overview by Kate Ferguson, Director of Trade and Business Development, Duluth Seaway Port Authority and a Ceremony of Blessing for all in the maritime industry. The Blessing of the Port Service is free and open to the public. Refreshments will be served following the Blessing.

Volunteers from Duluth Moms Demand Action are organizing a family-friendly community event for Wear Orange Weekend. The goal is to raise awareness about gun violence in Duluth. There will be a few speakers and photos followed by an inaugural walk across the Aerial Lift Bridge in solidarity with survivors. Participants are asked to wear orange.
