Artist Talk: Tara Austin
Tara Austin discusses her newest work from Boreal Ornament IV, now on exhibition at Joseph Nease Gallery. The exhibition includes several new paintings completed between 2020 and 2022, plus a select number of earlier paintings that were part of her spring 2020 exhibition Boreal Ornament III that had to close down, due to COVID-19, before it officially opened.

James Woodfill: Crossing Signals
Artist James Woodfill, from Kansas City, will give an artist talk in Duluth during the opening reception of his newest exhibition, Crossing Signals. This exhibition was almost fully formed more than two years ago. It was interrupted first by the onset of the pandemic, and then re-imagined through an online exhibition of animations informed by the work. All the while work was happening in the studio and other bodies of work formed and progressed.

Listening Through Context Exhibition Reception
Listening Through Context features the art of Sara Pajunen, showcasing two ongoing projects, "Mine Songs" and "The Places We Know." Pajunen is developing new work within these projects specifically for this exhibition. The exhibition opens July 14 and remains on display through Sept. 9; the opening reception with the artist in attendance is July 28 from 5 to 7 p.m.

Jonathan Thunder Solo Exhibition
Join the Joseph Nease Gallery in presenting the opening night of Jonathan Thunder's Solo Exhibition. Come wander through the myriad colors, shapes and stories that Thunder weaves into his surreal paintings, animations and installations. This night also includes a talk with the artist starting at 6 p.m. where Thunder shares the stories behind his creations and the journey of blending diverse worlds into visual poetry. Craig Blacklock’s Artist Talk
Craig Blacklock will be speaking about his newest exhibit, Within the Wave, which opens on July 26. Blacklock’s photography has always been a testament to the breathtaking beauty and complexity of nature, particularly the interface of land and water in wilderness areas. In this new exhibit, his works capture the essence of Lake Superior’s reflective surfaces and is divided into four evocative movements: Light Waves, Dream Waves, Encroachment and Lamentations.
