The opening reception for "The Duluth Fiber Handcrafters Guild: Janet Meany and 50 Years of Fiber Art," will be held in the Tweed Museum and the show will run through Sunday, May 21, 2023. The show focuses on the work of Guild founder and world-renowned weaving expert Janet Meany. Alongside Meany’s work is a juried exhibition of contemporary and historical work by guild members. Curated by ceramics professors Liz James and Jim Klueg, this exhibit draws on the Tweed’s trove of claywork by regional, national and international artists. Their guiding thread in organizing the show was the richness and diversity added to the Tweed’s collection by ceramicists of color. Guest curated by Anne Dugan, the show features folio suites by four artists that explore the interplay between visual language and the written and spoken word. A leader in the pop art field, Richard Anuszkiewicz’ 1970 folio of serigraphs features eye popping color alongside verse from William Blake. John Christie also employs the serigraph technique but towards the delicate interplay of love poems by Christopher Logue translated from Pablo Neruda.
