Woodsong Souvenir with Grant Glad and MorningBird
Event Navigation
Woodsong Souvenir is made up of members who work in other bands but find time on Sundays to get together, work on beautiful music, rehearse, record, and share stories. Christopher David Hanson fronts the band and brings the singer songwriter feel to the group. Along with Jill Burkes on violin and Rob Wheeler on acoustic guitar, both from the duet Morningbird, bring the folk element to the project. Joined by Mesabi Symphony Orchestra musician Lynn Evenson on stand up bass and thoughtfully composed percussion provided by Matt Jarva, the group is well rounded by years of experience in classical training.
Grant Glad is a Minneapolis-based Americana singer-songwriter who transforms the day-to-day struggle of American living into foot-stomping, full-hearted anthems about chasing dreams and dancing while doing it. At times twangy, at times funky, his albums stretch the boundaries of several genres to produce something entirely new: songs that offer the loose, raw spirit of punk rock, the bold, driving rhythms of roots rock-and-roll, and the rich sense of personal history that makes classic country forever relevant.
MorningBird is singer-songwriter Rob Wheeler and violinist Jill Burkes, both from the Northern Minnesota area. Burkes started off playing Finnish folk music on the violin when she was a child and then moved into more classically trained music. Wheeler has played guitar since he was a teenager beginning with heavy metal riffs, but he expanded into old country music and eventually into all genres. The two harmonize together on classic folk covers and originals. They recorded their first EP “Cosmic Escape” at Birch Bay Studios in 2021. Their new single and video “Old Missabe Road” was released in January 2023 and recorded at Sparta Sound Studios.
