Event Navigation

Attendees can grow their knowledge of native Minnesotan plants while preparing their own gardens with Minnesota Sea Grant’s Jessy Carlson and John Bly of Metro Blooms. The session is delivered over a webinar hosted by Cook County Higher Education. The event is part of Minnesota Sea Grant’s project, “Partnering with Local Governments for Climate Adaptation.”

Adding native species to a garden can provide pollinator habitat, prevent erosion, filter stormwater runoff and add beauty. The hour-long webinar aims to simplify the process of making a native garden species list. And covers the following topics:

– Clarify your project goals
– Identify site conditions, which will determine the species list
– Introduce the Blue Thumb Plant Finder, an online Minnesota-specific species selection tool that provides browsers with a species list tailored for projects on their site

The event is aimed at residents of Northeast Minnesota. Speakers include Jessy Carlson, resilience extension associate at Minnesota Sea Grant, and John Bly, director of operations and special projects at Metro Blooms.
