Twin Ports Festival of History 2024: Before the Bridge Lifted

Wed, Apr 3, 7:00 pm | Free | Glensheen Mansion & Museum

Event Navigation

Zenith City Press publisher Tony Dierckins presents “Before the Lift Bridge Lifted,” which explains why and how Duluth built the most unique aerial bridge ever constructed — twice! This look at Duluth’s iconic bridge explains it all, from the digging of the ship canal to the decision to build an aerial transfer bridge and the controversial battle to convert that bridge into today’s Duluth Aerial Lift Bridge.

Doors open at 6:30 p.m. and the presentation starts at 7.

The third annual Twin Ports Festival of History runs April 3-10 at multiple venues in Duluth and Superior. It features lectures, tours and more. The event aims to provide those with an interest in history an opportunity to listen and discuss topics with authors and historians of local, regional, national and international renown. It is sponsored by the University of Minnesota Duluth’s Public History and Museum Studies Programs and the multiple heritage organizations that are putting on events.
