Twin Ports Festival of History: J.C. “Buzz” Ryan Forest History Room Preview
Event Navigation
Sneak a preview of the updated Forest History Room at the St. Louis County Depot Heritage Center during this free reception celebrating the redesign, reinterpretation and reinstallation of one of the St. Louis County Historical Society’s premier exhibits showcasing the history of forest industries in northern Minnesota.
The reception is taking place in the Depot’s Fesler Gallery Hallway. During the event, museum patrons will meet Erin E. Hicks, the Society’s Curator, and Gary Lundstrom of Great Lake Design, whose design has refreshed this permanent exhibit honoring the legacy of J. C. “Buzz” Ryan and the Civilian Conservation Corps.
More than 25 vintage framed photographs by 20th century photographer William Francis Roleff are on view. His images were selected to chronicle the lumber industry in northern Minnesota from 1912 to 1916.
This event is part of the inaugural Twin Ports Festival of History, which runs April 6-11 at multiple venues in Duluth and Superior and features lectures, tours, scavenger hunts and more. The event aims to provide those with an interest in history an opportunity to listen and discuss topics with authors and historians of local, regional, national and international renown.
The festival is sponsored by the UMD Public History and Museum Studies Programs and multiple heritage organizations.
