Event Navigation

University of Minnesota Duluth’s College of Arts, Humanities, and Social Sciences and Department of Theatre put together a production of Twelfth Night. Shakespeare’s “comedy of mistaken identities” begins with a shipwreck and ends in a triple wedding. Centering on Viola and Sebastian, identical twins separated by fate, the play delivers romance and hilarity in equal measure.

This 1960s-set reimaging of the play directed by UMD Assistant Professor of Theatre History Jenna Soleo-Shanks bring a visual touch of “Mad Men” and a live band to replicate the sounds of a jukebox. The play’s classic theme of androgyny is “heightened by a troupe of recurring clowns, some deploying elements of drag.”

All performances are in the Marshall Performing Arts Center at the University of Minnesota Duluth. Advance tickets are now on sale at https://z.umn.edu/12thNite or by calling 218-726-8561. Advance tickets are $25 for adults, $20 for seniors, UMD Faculty and staff/veterans, and $10 for students. UMD students are also eligible for free rush tickets 30 minutes prior to a performance with a valid UMD student ID, subject to availability.

Runtime of the show is about two hours.

The Feb. 8, 7:30 p.m. show is a “Talk Back” performance. The Feb. 12 showing at 2 p.m. includes an ASL interpreter.
