Social Waltzing for Absolute Beginners
Event Navigation
Duluth Folk School teaches a beginner class on “cross-step” waltzing. Cross-step is a bit different than the more technically-demanding ballroom waltzes. Cross-step waltz is faster to learn, less formal and are more fitted for dancing socially.
In this class, participants learn the basics of social waltzing, including how to hear and move to waltzing music, how to do this in partnership with someone else and the basic tenets of social partner dancing.
For this beginning class, all participants will learn both roles (“lead” and “follow”), and will rotate partners frequently.
This class is best for ages 18 and older. Students should bring socks or comfy shoes. Students should not wear fragrances, wrist or finger jewelry, or large earrings. (These can be discomforting or even dangerous to oneself or during social dances.)
