LLO Science on Deck
Event Navigation
Scientists and staff of UMD’s Large Lakes Observatory invite the community to board and tour the Blue Heron research vessel in the Duluth Harbor near Pier B Resort. The Science on Deck event is free and runs from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m.
These tours are offered three times this summer — June 21, July 26 and Sept. 27. LLO started hosting them in the spring of 2013.
During Science On Deck, the vessel is tied up at Pier B Resort and the gangway is extended so the public can come aboard. Tours are provided by scientists, crew and students to provide an overview of the R/V Blue Heron’s layout and research capabilities. A variety of scientists prepare and present results of large lakes studies under a canopy on deck at each event, too.
During this event, at 1:30 p.m., scientist Jessica Seiber will present “Diversity of Techniques to Elucidate Microbe-microbe and Microbe-host Interactions.”
The Blue Heron is part of the University National Oceanographic Laboratory System and is chartered by research scientists to explore any of the Great Lakes. For more info visit scse.d.umn.edu.
