Sámi Day Celebration

Feb. 6 commemorates the first Sámi congress, which was held in 1917 in Trondheim, Norway. The first time Sámi National Day was celebrated was in 1993, making 2023 the 30th year of Sámi National Day! The Sámi Cultural Center of North America’s Sámi Day Celebration will be held at the Kathryn A. Martin Library at the University of Minnesota Duluth in the library’s 4th-floor rotunda. Activities include Sámi storytelling, button-making, browsing the library’s Sámi Collection and exploring some items from the Sámi Cultural Center.
Parking on campus is free after 5:00 p.m. Lot E is closest to the library, however, there is metered and handicapped parking directly in front of the library.
