Poetry Essentials with Gary Boelhower

Want to hone your poetry writing skills in the company of like-minded writers? Award-winning poet and writing instructor Gary Boelhower is hosting a month-long online course on the fundamental building blocks of poems. Boelhower’s goal is to fine tune your ability to see how a poem uses core dimensions to create an experience. Each class will include a writing prompt and 12-15 minutes of writing, followed by sharing from anyone who wishes to share. Each class will end with a Q&A and reflections on the evening’s material.

Here’s a look at what each week will cover:
Week One: Sound, Rhyme and Rhythm
Week Two: Metaphor, Simile and Close Description
Week Three: Character, Plot and Narrative
Week Four: Structure, Form, Line and Verse

The classes will take place on zoom every Tuesday night from Feb. 6 to Feb. 26. The series is $70 for members of Lake Superior Writers and $80 for non-members. Registration is limited to the first 12 people who sign up so reserve your spot here.
