Opening Reception for A Western Lake Superior Awe Walking Almanac
Event Navigation
“Awe walks” are strolls in natural settings where folks can feel a sense of connection in the presence of something bigger than themselves according to watercolorist and writer Timothy Larson.
His exhibit “A Western Lake Superior Awe Walking Almanac” officially opens at Great Lakes Aquarium with a reception on Thursday, March 30 from 6 to 8 p.m. with light refreshments and treats. Admission to the reception is free.
The collection of paintings and descriptive prose is on display through May 29 in the Merrill Lynch Fine Arts Gallery. Images range from breathtaking sunrises and landscapes to ephemeral blooms that are here today and gone tomorrow. Together, they create a visual almanac of western Lake Superior’s phenology and how time, seasons, and climate change affect the natural world.
“Those of us who live by Lake Superior have the opportunity to walk continually in the presence of something awe inspiring,” said Larson. “If we aren’t in awe, we should be.”
