Ojibwe Storytime

Aug 24, 2022, 1:00 pm | Free | St. Louis County Depot

Event Navigation

St. Louis County Historical Society Museum Assistant Abby Johnson reads stories in the Lake Superior Ojibwe Gallery every Wednesday and Saturday during the summer. Sessions are free and aimed at 2–12-year-olds, however, all ages are welcome. All books have been approved by the American Indian Advisory Committee.

The gallery is located on the fourth floor of the Duluth Depot. It contains original artworks by noted painter Eastman Johnson and artifacts that represent the history and culture of the area’s Ojibwe people.

Storytelling in the Ojibwe culture is a traditional way to pass on knowledge from generation to generation. Storytime aims to introduce children to the world of Ojibwe cultural teachings. In addition to broadly telling the Anishinabeg story, a museum-safe wigwam was installed for children to experience and discuss the cultural tradition of storytelling.
