Oil Painting from a Photograph with Matt Kania

Participants in this Duluth Art Institute class create an oil painting based on a photograph of a favorite place or memory. They bring a photograph to class — perhaps a beloved family dog, a landscape scene or an event in their life. The students are led through the process of learning to look at a photograph through the eyes of a painter, how to transfer a drawing of the image onto a canvas, and how to fully develop an oil painting that will inspire others.

The three sessions are held on Wednesdays, Nov. 2, 9 and 16, from 9:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. The cost is $100 for Duluth Art Institute members and $80 for non-members. Register online at duluthartinstitute.org.

Proof of vaccination is required to participate in this class. On the first day of class students must present their vaccine card or a copy of it and a form of identification. Masks will be required.
