NorthShore Inline Marathon 2024
Event Navigation
The 28th annual NorthShore Inline Marathon is a skating race along Highway 61. The half marathon starts at 6:45 a.m. and the full marathon starts at 8:45 a.m. The course follows the same route as Grandma’s Marathon from Two Harbors down the North Shore, then rolls through the I-35 tunnels and finishes on the northbound frontage road.
The traditional finish line between the Duluth Entertainment Convention Center and the William A. Irvin Museum is unavailable this year due to seawall construction on Harbor Drive.
Instead, racers will emerge from the I-35 tunnels, ascend the ramp to travel over the Fifth Avenue West overpass, and turn northbound onto the I-35 frontage road for a finish on the roadway. The course change means the race will be slightly shorter than the traditional 26.2 miles, and as such, course records will not be recognized this year.
In addition to the full and half inline marathons, there is a roller-ski marathon, a combined 39.3 marathon, a wheels-off half marathon run and a 10k run through the freeway tunnels.
Several area roads will close for the marathon. Parking will be prohibited on the closed roads, and vehicles found in violation will be subject to ticketing and towing.
Roads will re-open from east to west as racers near the finish area. All roads will reopen by 2 p.m.
Downtown Duluth and Canal Park will remain open to traffic during this event.
