Native Plant Foray
Event Navigation
The Arrowhead Native Plant Explorers will be collecting plants from the Blue Dasher Bog in the Sax-Zim Bog to add to the UMD Olga Lakela Herbarium. No prior plant identification or plant pressing skills are necessary to participate in the inaugural Native Plant Foray.
Blue Darner Bog property access is via East Stone Lake Road in Forbes. There is room for a little parking at the intersection of the road and the powerline, with more at the boat landing 0.6 miles away. The parking pad is located at 47.282623 -92.545692, on the east side of the road. Once near the parking pad, there is a very large sign identifying the land parcel as well as the trailhead sign. The group will meet at the picnic table of the boat landing at noon.
Participants should bring rubber boots and/or shoes that can get wet. Bags that are set down might get wet. An extra pair of socks and shoes to change into are recommended, as is bug protection.
This event is hosted by the Arrowhead Native Plant Explorers. The UMD Herbarium Museum Preparator Gretchen Meier will provide guidance on plant specimen collection and pressing techniques.
First-time participation in an ANPE event is free. Subsequent events are $10 per household for nonmembers. All meetings are free for members. Yearly household memberships are $20, or $10 for students.
