Messe de Nostre Dame
Event Navigation
The Great Lakes Collegium Vocale (featuring David Greenberg, Cal Metts, Gunnar Molstad and Michael Fuchs) perform Guillaume de Machaut’s (c. 1300-1377) Messe de Nostre Dame.
Written over 650 years ago, the Messe de Nostre Dame is one of the oldest pieces of sacred vocal music and the earliest known polyphonic setting of the Mass by a single composer. The Messe de Nostre Dame will be performed alongside several pieces of Gregorian chant to form a complete Votive Mass to the Virgin Mary, similar to the context in which it would have originally been heard. This performance is presented as part of the Sanctus Music Series.
