Marshall School Hilltopper Honors Ceremony

Each year Marshall School recognizes some of its most prestigious alumni with the Hilltopper Honor Awards, which honor diverse talents and accomplishments.

The 2022 Hilltopper Award recipients are:

Distinguished Alumni Award – Michael Jaros, 1964
Mike Jaros has had a distinguished career as a public servant for Northern Minnesota. He represented St. Louis County in the Minnesota Legislature from 1975-1980 and again from 1985-2008. During his 32-year tenure in the legislature, Jaros was a strong advocate for higher education, handgun control and increasing minimum wage for businesses receiving economic development grants.

Distinguished Young Alumni Award – CB Baga, 2008
CB Baga is an associate with the law firm Faegre Drinker Biddle & Reath in Minneapolis. With the support from Faegre and local community organizations, Baga founded a pro bono clinic where the LGBTQ community can access free legal services and advice. It has been running as a partnership between the Volunteer Lawyers Network and Twin Cities nonprofits since 2016. Baga’s work has been recognized with related awards and recognitions, including a Baker Benson pro bono award for complex pro bono litigation and the 2020 Business of Pride Award from the Twin Cities Business Journal.

Global Citizenship Award – Ian Grant, 1987
Ian Grant’s passion for art and culture has influenced his professional and personal life. He has traveled around the world for his custom furniture company, Bjorling & Grant, and as host of travel television programs. His Daytime Emmy Award winning series, The Relic Hunter with Ian Grant, aired on the Travel Channel from 2007-2009 and he currently hosts PBS’s Culture Quest.

Athletic Hall of Fame – Greg Cane, 1979
Greg Cane has had an illustrious career piloting and growing successful collegiate soccer programs. He played a pivotal role in establishing the St. Scholastica women’s soccer program and became its first head coach in 1990. He has been at the University of Minnesota Duluth since 1994, when he became the first coach of its women’s soccer team. Cane has received numerous awards for coaching and holds many records for wins, including being ranked 12th for victories in Division II Women’s Soccer.
