Event Navigation

Ann Zabaldo will speak via Zoom about intentional urban communities as part of the Meet the Professionals speaker series of the Twin Cities Cohousing Network. Zabaldo’s talk is entitled “Everyone Living Next to Someone Who Cares About Them: My Role in Creating Cohousing.” She works with developers and helps cohousing groups in the mid-Atlantic states. A Q&A will follow her remarks.

Zabaldo is a co-founding resident of Takoma Village Cohousing, an urban multigenerational community in Washington D.C. of 43 privately owned townhomes and condo units. She is both a pioneer volunteer and a paid professional in the cohousing movement. She specializes in outreach, education, marketing and encouraging others to build cohousing communities. She is past-president of the Cohousing Association of the United States and is a co-founder and current board member of Mid Atlantic Cohousing, a regional nonprofit organization. She is a certified facilitator for McCamant & Durrett’s Senior Cohousing Study Group I workshops. She is co-executive producer of Building Sustainable Communities for Today’s Housing Market, a handbook created specifically for developers who are interested in entering the cohousing market niche. She will share her personal and professional journey to cohousing and advise viewers on catalyzing cohousing in Minnesota.

Cohousing, which combines private homes with shared spaces and amenities around values such as interdependence, sustainability and self-determination, is co-designed and co-developed by the future inhabitants. There are 150 cohousing communities in urban, suburban and rural locations across the United States, with many more in formation.

This “Meet the Professionals” series is being presented by Twin Cities Cohousing Network, an all-volunteer nonprofit with a mission to educate about and support cohousing in Minnesota. With this series, people interested in affordable ownership housing and housing professionals will gain an opportunity to look at possibilities for working together to create cohousing.
