Henry Blomberg Excellence in Service Awards and Veterans Day Ceremony
Event Navigation
UW-Superior is hosting a Veterans Day ceremony and presentation of Henry Blomberg Excellence in Service Awards. The ceremony, which is open to the community, will begin with the presentation of colors, national anthem and National Honor Society induction ceremony — UW-Superior chief of police, Joe Eickman, will provide the opening remarks. Following the awards presentation, there will be a Q&A panel featuring UW-Superior student veterans who will answer questions about their service, experiences and life as a veteran.
The Henry Blomberg Excellence in Service Awards presented are named for Lieutenant Henry Blomberg, who was born in Superior August 3, 1892. He attended Superior Normal School, now UW-Superior, where he became a top debater and played baseball and football. He joined the Wisconsin National Guard after graduation in 1916, registered for the draft and soon found himself on a boat to France with the 32nd Division amid World War I. Blomberg’s acts were recognized with a promotion to captain, but he was too busy to accept. During the Battle of the Argonne in October 1918, Blomberg was seriously wounded. He was posthumously awarded the Distinguished Service Cross, the second-highest military honor.
