Honor the shortest and darkest day of the year through practicing 108 flows through Surya Namaskar (Sun Salutation) together. This is a trauma-conscious practice so you may join and move through as little or as many Sun Salutations as is supportive to you. Honor this transition and choose as many of 108 Sun Salutations to practice.
The Winter Solstice symbolizes death and rebirth. – new beginnings and fresh starts. Practicing 108 Sun Salutations is a sacred and significant number in many ways, appearing in many disciplines from astronomy to yoga. The number 108 appears in ancient, sacred texts.
108 Sun Salutations is a modern practice of devoting a moving meditation to honor the Sun (Surya) as it begins lengthening in the Northern Hemisphere. In the longest night, we pause time through concentration of movement in our bodies to mark this significant shift.
Approximate Schedule:
5 to 5:15 p.m. — Description and Invocation
5:15 to 7:15 p.m. — 108 Surya Namaskar A
7:15 to 8 p.m. — Gentle Yin Release, Shavasana and Deep Meditation
Participants are welcome to stay for any part of this practice and to leave at any time.
