Duluth Poetry Chapter: Weekly Coffee Chats
An event every week that begins at 1:00 pm on Sunday, repeating until Nov 19, 2023
Event Navigation
Poets gather to read, workshop and free-write together. The coffee chats are casual, oriented around connection and organic mentorship among other people interested in writing and sharing poetry. During the meetings, the Duluth Poetry Chapter also organizes and plans poetry events, motivates and informs each other of grant-writing and submission opportunities.
Once entering Wussow’s, enter the door to the right and follow it upstairs. The chapter meets in the upper level in the “Misfit Room of Chairs.”
Generally, the meeting flow is as follows:
– Introductions and a poetry read-around
– Sharing of any local poetry news, upcoming events, grant deadlines, and journals open to submissions (regionally and beyond)
– League of Minnesota Poets updates
– Free-writing session and writing prompt
– “Open table” to discuss anything on attendees’ radar/mind that week (such as projects they’d like to do as a group, a chapbook they’ve read, etc.)
– Organizing and delegation for putting together poetry events
– Celebrate any “publishing wins” of members in attendance
The Duluth Poetry Chapter is a part of the League of Minnesota Poets nonprofit. Attendance to the meetings is free, though paying $25 for an annual membership with the League of Minnesota Poets allows for further benefits, such as receiving chapbooks and newsletters by mail, discounted or free admission to LOMP events (a camping event, spring and fall conferences, etc.), discounted contest rates, and the ability to include published books in the League of Minnesota book fairs. Assistance is available for anyone hoping to be involved but is unable to pay the annual membership fee.
To participate in the discussion and view more photos from the group, interested writers can join the Duluth Poetry Chapter Members Facebook page.
