Duluth Lyceum: Self-Transcendence
Event Navigation
A lyceum is a place for adults to come together to think, learn and talk with their neighbors, to explore the deep questions about what it means to be human. The topic for September is: Self-Transcendence — what it means to live a good life.
Self-transcendence means making our lives about something besides ourselves. How do we find meaningful things to give our lives to, what are the habits that can bring us to a flourishing life that is focused on others?
Food will be provided and drinks are available for purchase.
The presentation will be by James Ozaawaanakwad Clark. He is 24 years old and was born and raised in Minnesota. He attended the University of Minnesota Duluth from 2016 to 2020 and graduated with a bachelor’s degree in public history and Native American studies with a focus on museums. He sought to work in native museums, yet ended up working back at his home band (Mille Lacs Band of Ojibwe) learning Ojibwemowin (Ojibwe language) as an effort to revitalize the language and preserve the culture for future generations.
Registration is required with a suggested $10 donation to cover the cost of food and speaker support.
The Duluth Lyceum is co-hosted by Northspan’s Welcoming Community programming, Bent Paddle Brewing Co., and the Lyceum Movement.
