Duluth Explorers Club: Amy Varsek’s “Arctic Quest”
Event Navigation
Duluthian Amy Varsek is the presenter at this Duluth Explorers Club event, sharing tales of her dogsledding and skiing adventures.
Starting in January 2004, Varsek was part of a group of four female Voyageur Outward Bound School instructors who traveled 98 days across the Canadian Barrens. The expedition was the culmination of five years of raising dogs, constructing sleds, researching routes and building relationships.
In 2000, Varsek moved from Chicago to Ely, where she fell in love with the Outward Bound sled dogs. She joined Arctic Quest as an alternate, and ultimately traveled on the training trip to James Bay in 2003 and the 2004 expedition from Yellowknife, NWT, to Churchill, Manitoba. She lives in Duluth with her teenager, their cat, Captain Q.E. MeowMeow McSparrow, and their Texan rescue dog, Avocado. She is the curator at the Duluth Art Institute and a multidisciplinary artist who still loves all things winter.
This event is free, but that hat is passed to support youth climbing programming. Food and drink are available for purchase in the adjoining restaurant.
Social time starts at 7 p.m.; the presentation is at 7:30.
