Event Navigation
The University of Wisconsin-Superior’s Jim Dan Hill Library presents the fourth speaker in a free multipart series entitled, “Data Deluge: Privacy in a Connected World.” Natalie Lynner from Drake University Law School will lead the discussion “Death and Privacy in the Digital Age.”
This community event will take place in the Jim Dan Hill Library’s main floor and will also be livestreamed on YouTube.
Americans store an overwhelming amount of sensitive and personal information online. When developers created these online services and platforms, it is unlikely that they gave much thought to what would happen to accounts when an account holder died. Yet, the treatment of these accounts after an account holder’s death is an increasingly pressing issue today as more and more Americans die with active, password-protected accounts in their name.
Lynner teaches in the area of wills and trusts, property and tax and her primary research interests include digital asset succession, property rights and state intestacy laws.
This event, sponsored by the Tommy G. Thompson Center for Public Leadership, is a multipart speaker series discussing the timely issues of data and privacy in the digital age.
