Community Picnic and Military Vehicle Show

The Richard I. Bong Veterans Historical Center, American Legion Post 435, American Legion Auxiliary, Kwik Trip, Super One Foods, Border Town Betties, Midwest Dental, the city of Superior and Douglas County Fish and Game League are kicking off summer and honoring veterans with a free community picnic and military vehicle show.

The community is invited to the free event, which features music from Sounds Unlimited, kids’ games and prizes, a bounce house, a free hot dog lunch to the first 1,000 people, $5 admissions to the museum, a “Huey” helicopter landing at 10 a.m. and departing at noon, a military vehicle and historical weapons show, a K-9 demonstration at 12:30 p.m. and Douglas County Humane Society animals for adoption. Attendees can bring a blanket or chair and enjoy a picnic by the harbor at the Bong Center.

On Memorial Day there will be remembrance services at 9 a.m. at Calvary Cemetery and 10:30 at Greenwood Cemetery. There will be a flag raising ceremony at noon at the Richard I. Bong Veterans Historical Center. In addition to the activities that weekend, the center is offering $5 admission for the public on May 28 and free admission for veterans on the 28th and on Memorial Day.
