Carl Gawboy: New Paintings, Old Stories
Event Navigation
The American Indian Community Housing Organization hosts a new exhibition of paintings by Bois Forte Band of Ojibwe citizen and Finnish American painter Carl Gawboy. It includes a collection of more than 30 watercolor, acrylics and ink washes that feature Anishinaabe and Finnish cultural life, landscapes and spiritual teachings. Also on display are Gawboy’s artist awards, his books and visual accolades for work he has created.
The reception was rescheduled for March 11 in response to winter weather on the original date March 5.
The works will also be on display Fridays from March 11 to May 27 from 4 to 6 p.m. Attendees should use the main entrance to AICHO’s Dr. Robert Powless Cultural Center at 212 W. Second St. Due to COVID-19, AICHO is limiting the number of visitors to 20 at any given time. Face masks are required.
AICHO Galleries will have a “New Paintings, Old Stories” art catalog for purchase featuring a select set of Gawboy’s new watercolors, biographical information, praise from fellow artist colleagues, and more at its Indigenous First Art and Gift Shop.
