Ashwabay Summit Nordic Ski Race
Event Navigation
The 17th annual Ashwabay Summit Nordic Race in Bayfield is a race that showcases scenic segments of the 43-kilometer network of skate and classic cross-country ski trails at Mt. Ashwabay. The race features a citizen race open to everyone, as well as middle school, high school and college races.
Home-baked pies are handed out to overall and age-group winners. All citizen races include a climb to the summit, with the fantastic view across Lake Superior toward Madeline Island.
New this year is a 30k skate race. Citizen racers now have three options: the 30k skate consisting of two laps with two climbs to the summit up the Northern Lights trail, a 10k classic on the classic course including a climb up Seagull Classic, and a 25k skiathlon-style pursuit that uses one lap on the classic course and one lap on the skate course with a variety of terrain and scenery.
There is also a free event for kids at 12:30 p.m. with a 0.5k option for those in 1st grade or younger, a 1.5k option for grades 2-4, and 5th graders can enter the 3.5k race with a ski team or as an individual.
Registration is available online at tempotickets.com at a range of rates. Event-day registration and bib pickup is at 8:30 a.m. Middle school, high school and college racers should sign up with their team unless they are skiing alone.
