Arbor Day Celebration
Event Navigation
The city of Duluth invites the public to an Arbor Day Celebration to recognize Duluth’s Tree City USA status and host a tree-planting event. Attendees will learn about the role of trees in Duluth and how they relate to the city’s Climate Action Work Plan.
Created in response to the city council’s Climate Emergency Declaration in April 2021, the Climate Action Work Plan is available at duluthmn.gov/sustain and outlines a 5-year set of actions to reduce greenhouse gas emissions and adapt to climate change.
The event is also a chance to help plant white pines at Wheeler Park and meet with the city forester, sustainability officer, natural resources coordinator, and parks staff to learn more about Duluth’s open spaces, trails, climate plans and more.
Duluth has been a recognized Tree City USA community for 31 years and has achieved the Growth Award for five years. The Tree City USA program is an initiative of the Arbor Day Foundation. The Growth Award is presented to participating Tree City USA communities that have demonstrated an increase in levels of tree care and community engagement. This event takes place during Duluth Climate Week, organized by a team of climate-motivated individuals and groups from around the region. Climate Week kicks off with a vigil at the Civic Center at 5 p.m. on Monday, Sept. 19, coordinated by Duluth Climate Mobilization.
