Aadizookeng – She Tells a Sacred Story: Traditional Ojibwe Winter Storytelling

Fri, Jan 24, 6:00 pm

Event Navigation

Niigaanibinesiikwe, Hannah Orie, leads this traditional Ojibwe storytelling event. A catered feast will start at 6 p.m. with storytelling shortly after.

Niigaanibinesiikwe will share winter legend stories in the Ojibwe language, Anishinaabemowin, and then will translate into English. These stories are sacred and help remind Ojibwe people of who they are and connect them to where they come from.

From Niigaanibinesiikwe: “Aadizookeng/Winter Storytelling is an important season for Anishinaabe people when aadizookaanag are told. Aadizookaanag are legends that are told in the wintertime and are traditionally told in the language. They provide many teachings and understandings of the world around us.”
