A Conversation: Decolonizing Our Relationship With the Land

Waankam: People for the Estuary is a group of Twin Ports area citizens raising awareness about how our community can care for and protect the St. Louis River Estuary and they are asking the public to join a conversation about decolonizing our relationship with the land.
Decolonizing our relationship with the land means relating to nature as an entity with rights that we humans are responsible for honoring.
Learn from Ricky DeFoe, an Anishinaabe Elder and teacher who will discuss traditional ways of knowing, and from Leah Prussia, a clinical social worker and teacher who will lead us in experiential learning. This will be a non-judgmental space to explore personal relationships with the land as well as inquires into deepening interconnections and reciprocity with nature.
Waankam team members Emily Levang, Barb Akre, and Shawna Weaver will share the history behind the Rights of Nature, and how this legal movement supports the goal of decolonization. Community building, time for questions and sharing, and building our knowledge and action plan for protecting our estuary will all be covered topics.
Registrations encouraged, but walk-ins welcome. Masks are required and some will be available.
