218 Days Sunrise Photography Workshop
Event Navigation
The lake is starting to freeze, sea smoke is rising and snow is snowing — what a better time of year to photograph the world’s largest lake. During this session, Larsmont Cottages cover camera settings, composition fundamentals, exposure guidelines, use of filters, scouting locations and tips on weather tracking. This workshop includes small group editing session and conference room for editing. Instructors will be using Adobe Lightroom and Photoshop.
Suggested equipment includes DSLR or Mirrorless Camera, wide angle lens to capture Lake Superior’s beauty and a tripod. Bring a laptop with editing software to edit your photos from the morning. Sessions are designed to work for all levels of photographers using digital cameras.
Itinerary:
6:00 a.m. Arrive at Larsmont Lodge for a group orientation & small Q&A.
6:30 a.m. Head to Lake Superior Shoreline to scout location & setup.
6:30 – 8:00 a.m. Photograph Lake Superior Shoreline
8:30 – 10:30 a.m. Editing sunrise photos and general photography discussion.
Dress accordingly with warm winter jackets, snow pants, snow boots, warm gloves, hats and ice spikes, or yak tracks. The rocks of Lake Superior can be extremely slippery. If the weather is less than ideal, still be prepped to photograph the shoreline but spend more time working on editing techniques on a provided image.
The second annual 218 Days community celebration features live music along with art and local food and runs Feb. 16-18. For a list of events visit 218days.com.
