Almanac North: The Wall that Heals in Chisholm

The traveling Vietnam Wall was on display in Chisholm recently. WDSE-TV Producer Megan McGarvey visited the wall and produced an emotional report for Almanac North on the importance of the memorial in remembering those who paid the ultimate price during the war.

Video Archive: Vietnam Protest in Duluth, 1969

On Oct. 15, 1969, a “Peace March and Moratorium” was held in Duluth to protest the Vietnam War. Participants marched from the campus of the University of Minnesota Duluth to the Duluth Civic Center. This clip is raw 16mm film of the event pulled from the WDIO-TV archives.

Remembering the Vietnam War

WDSE-TV, working in collaboration with veteran’s organizations, community partners and the statewide Minnesota Public Television Association, produced this two-part documentary featuring Duluth-area veterans telling their stories of the Vietnam War.

Almanac North: The Wall that Heals

The traveling “Wall that Heals” was set up on Barkers Island in Superior July 20-23. It features a half-scale replica of the Vietnam Veterans Memorial in Washington, D.C., together with a mobile education center. WDSE-TV cameras captured the arrival of the wall, the opening ceremony and local reaction.

Summer of ’65: First Duluthian killed in Vietnam action

Fifty years ago — Aug. 22, 1965 — the DNT reports Marine Cpl. James Leo Dieryck, 26, was killed in action on Aug. 18 in the Chu Lai sector of Vietnam. He was the first Duluthian and the second man from the region to die during the war.
