Duluth gets a quick and silly mention in the March 13 episode of Wait Wait … Don’t Tell Me!, a weekly radio show produced by WBEZ in Chicago and National Public Radio. At the tail end of the clip embedded above, the panel talks about the virtues of pizza for breakfast instead cereal and jokes that people never argue about which city has the best cereal, resulting in the crack, “You haven’t had Frosted Flakes until you’ve had Frosted Flakes in Duluth.”
I just found an investigative podcast based out of Duluth called “Uncovering the Truth in Minnesota.”
“Unconstrained, unbiased, and driven for the truth, follow us as we use journalism to tell the untold stories of Minnesota,” reads the description on Apple Podcasts. “Join your Co-hosts, Sarah Knieff and Izabel Johnson, for weekly episodes released on Tuesdays!”
After a hiatus, we return with regular releases. This week’s episodes: “Menno Zwonk, Amish Outlaw: The Death of Professor Marrow.” This explicitly violent short fiction features a shootout in a house on Chester Creek. Also: “Diaper Island,” in which the Robinson Crusoe of Diaper Island tells his terrible tale. Warning: gross. And another Zwonk story, “The Tale of Crusty McGee,” about Zwonk’s yeast rancher in Superior. Also gross.
Podcasts have been a thing for about 15 years, but the medium has only been popular for maybe five years. Duluth has followed that trend, going from just one or two downloadable online audio productions in the early days to more than a two-dozen now. Some are specifically about Duluth, others feature people from the region speaking to the world about subject matter ranging from popular culture to health and wellness.
Episode #186 of the Duluth News Tribune’s Pressroom Podcast features Chris Godsey, whose recent essay on Perfect Duluth Day, “Why Some Men Kill Women,” examined men’s violence against women.
In the sixth episode of the “Duluth to Montgomery Reflections,” the Duluth NAACP welcomes an advocate, coordinator, and mentor from the Duluth community. Sandra Oyinloye is no stranger to facing issues of racial justice head-on, yet this trip to the National Memorial for Peace and Justice brought her into new challenges.
Continuing the podcast series of “Duluth to Montgomery Reflections,” the Duluth NAACP welcomes Henry Banks, host of the Twin Ports-focused “People of Color” program on Wisconsin Public Radio. Banks meets with Ivy Vainio to discuss the various assumptions around the Civil Rights movement.
As the Crunchy Bunch, we’ve been DJing for almost nine years now, and we decided it was time to try something a little different. We started making a podcast that would feature new beats that we discover, as well as a sit-down, relaxed chat with a local face.
So far we’ve had DJ Kevin Craig, DJ Walt Dizzo, and the newest episode with Chad Lyons in the studio.

Duluth and its surrounding communities are not necessarily known for their famous podcasts, but in recent years about a dozen productions have been pushed out to the internet and smartphones with the notion that people across the planet might be interested in Duluth’s take on birds, professional wrestling or whatever.

Wisecracks & Roadside Flats is a news podcast featuring American stories and folktales from musician, author and storyteller Teague Alexy. The debut episode, “Million Dollar Magic Take,” is Teague’s experience with the classic Bob Dylan and the Band album The Basement Tapes. Teague first hears the album on a solo road trip and years later finds himself as part of a tribute show to the album in Bob Dylan’s hometown of Duluth.

The very first episode features local raconteurs/comedians/ actors/musicians/television hosts/et ceteras Jody Kujawa, Tony Bennett, and Nathan Carlblom talking, singing, telling jokes, being gross, being vile, and just being. DOY is not recommended for children or people who get all freaked out by dirty stuff.
