Opinions on winter clothing

Thought I’d check here to see if anyone has any suggestions.

I’m looking to replace my ‘ol generic JCP winter coat with a “high quality” brand.  Had been looking at Canada Goose but I’d like to stay away from down filled coats because of the cleaning issue.  Anyone got anything they’ve found that really does the job with warmth along with a water repellant and/or water proof exterior?  I realize warmth is relative but shoot some suggestions.  Thanks.

Lake Superior Brewing wins Gold Medal at World Beer Championships

Lake Superior Brewing Company‘s Oktoberfest won a gold medal at the World Beer Championships.

Not sure why I feel like the resident apologist for Lake Superior Brewing especially since I’ve never tasted the stuff but … somehow I am a big booster of this gem of a Duluth business and I was very glad to see them get some recognition. Who knows? Maybe this is a stepping stone to better and better things for them and our fair Lincoln Park. Congratulations Dale and boys.

Jeremy Dick, New Years Eve at Carmody Irish Pub

Jeremy writes music to please and inspire those he loves (a perpetually growing list) and to help him to remember his own life. At best each of us sleeps 8 out of 24 hours each day of our life. Subtract the forgotten years of childhood and the fog of senility and we’re left with about 50 years waking time. Most of that time we spend engaged in autopilot-type tasks and we can’t even remember what we ate for lunch 48 hours ago. Or did we even eat lunch? Who knows? Performing live music is the way Jeremy makes himself uncomfortable enough to remember a night forever. And a night full of friends and laughter and love is worth remembering. Some Mountain Dew types call it ‘feeling more alive’. Jeremy would settle for living more of his feelings.

Boxing Day 2009 Sledding Conditions: Horrible!

Today’s report is from Lincoln Park. It was well packed down yesterday, and frozen rock-hard today. So, the speed on the way down is totally out of control, and the ride is full of solid bumps that threaten to permanently damage one’s sphincter ani externus muscle.

Yoda hockey Christmas booze snow goon

YodaHockeyChristmasBoozeYay

Merry Christmas. Let’s have a contest. The person who posts the best snow goon before midnight Sunday wins two tickets to Wilco at the DECC on Feb. 19.

UPDATE: Or maybe the slushy snow will all freeze after this is posted, making it impossible to build a snow goon and forcing this contest to be scrapped.
