Who for sewer?

We are one of the lucky 250 households to get the official "Change your sewer line or else" letters. We have gotten 3 quotes each about $2000 apart. We are looking at the cheapest bid and am wondering if anyone has dealt with Shelton Excavating for this type of project. In doing the bid, they were professional, timely and knowledgeable so they seem like a decent choice, especially since they are $2000 cheaper than the next quote.

Vote YES for Minnesota

yes-for-MN-logo.gif

Since everybody else is posting election stuff, I'll post this: please vote yes on the Clean Water, Land, and Legacy Amendment. This amendment will raise the sales tax by 3/8 of one percent (about thirty cents on an $80 purchase) and will generate about $300 million a year for protecting our water, preserving habitat, creating and maintaining parks and trails, and promoting the arts and our cultural heritage. This proposed amendment gives us a unique opportunity to fund programs that are sorely in need of more money, build a legacy for years to come, and continue to make Minnesota a place worth living in and loving. Not voting will count as voting "no," so please go vote, and vote yes.

Grant Elementay Steps to the Future Powwow and Career Fair

The Grant Community School Collaborative will be hosting their annual Powwow and Career/College Fair on Thursday, November 6, 2008. This will be an enjoyable event featuring a feast, singing and dancing, and time for families and friends to socialize. We expect over 250 people from our community to attend.

We are looking for your help with the Career portion of our Powwow! Our request is simple: We are asking for college recruiters and volunteers from our local business and service community to be table leaders so you can share information about your college or your career with families in our community. This should be a fun, hands on chance for you to let young people and their families know what it takes to enter the careers they are most interested in – so they can take their “Steps to the Future” – and start to think about the fields they would most enjoy.

The Set up for the Carrer fair begins at 4PM and will end at about 6:30. If you are interested please e-mail [email protected] or call us at 733-2016

Gnome Thieves Disgust Me

We had a little garden gnome on our front "porch" which I just noticed this morning has disappeared. I was somewhat fond of this little guy...and only someone stupidly drunk would consider stealing him. If you happen to see him, please alert me so I can go claim him. Or steal him back for me, if you feel so inclined. I couldn't find a picture online, he was a garage sale purchase from my friend's mom, but he's pretty small, maybe a foot or so, and he has a "bowl" i can't remember if it was an upturned leaf, or mushroom, or what, i assume it's for feeding birds, but I just let it catch rainwater.

Thanks for your help. We miss you, little gnomester.

Anybody want a garden?

gardenweb.jpg

The past couple of years I've tried to maintain the garden in the traffic circle at the corner of 17th Avenue East and Jefferson. It's city-owned, but it seems to be off the radar of any city department or local garden club.

In summer 2007 I lived on that corner, noticed that no one was taking care of the garden and decided to take it on. That first summer I really did a lot of work in the garden. I then moved out of the neighborhood, but this past summer I put in some flowers and did some minimal maintenance. I'm afraid it's not looking too great right now, but it's better than it used to be.

I now find myself with a three-acre yard of my own to maintain, so I am relinquishing control of the traffic circle. Does anyone out there want to take care of it next year?

Wind Power Redux

wyoming_big.jpg

I know there's been previous discussions on wind power and Duluth's roll in this booming industry. Lately I've been amazed at the number of windmill parts moving through Duluth on their way to other areas of the country. But I'm left with a question that I hope someone on here may know the answer to. What's up with the route they take to get through the city and onto I-35? I'm assuming that they are coming directly from the port terminal and want to hit 35 South. What's confusing me is how the Central Avenue entrance onto the freeway is the best route? I've seen 4 semi trucks stuck at that 90 degree corner in the last month. The strange thing is I've also seen them on the freeway before that entrance, so that particular route must not be set in stone. Don't get me wrong this isn't something that is pissing me off, I'm just more curious than anything. Although it can make navigating around West Duluth a bit challenging at times.

Renegade Announces Improv Auditions!

Renegade Logo for pdd.jpg

Renegade Comedy Theatre proudly announces auditions for their Improv Teams! In 2009, Renegade will be offering live comedy every Friday night. We're looking for smart, funny performers who want to spend their Friday nights making people laugh - while getting PAID! That's right, we said PAID!

Auditions will be held on Friday, October 3rd at 7pm at the Peasant Works Porch above Hell's Kitchen in Canal Park, 310 Lake Ave S. Call 218-722-6775 to schedule your audition.

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION:
Our goal is to form a team that will all rehearse together so that anyone can play on any given Friday night. We'll have 3 styles - games, long form, and headlines (news & politics.) The styles will rotate every Friday, and anyone can sign up to play on any Friday night that they're available. This means that performers will not have to perform every Friday - if you have a conflict, then you dont have to sign up for that evening.

Live In a Cool House Rent Free!

Patrick Nelson of ObsCuriosities is looking for a roommate to live rent free in his very cool house in exchange for working in the store (which is in the lower part of the house) 20 hours a week (approximately 11:00 - 3:00 Tues - Saturday). Hours are flexible though. Must love vintage clothing and interesting music. Pets negotiable. You will have a bedroom and share the rest of the house. If the work hours are not possible, he will consider renting for cash, no working the store. Call Patrick 218-722-2890 to discuss.

Official HS Bars

As a native West Duluthian and a graduate of Denfeld High School, I know that on most given nights, I could go to Mr. D's Bar & Grill and run into a former classmate. If you were to ask DHS grads of any year what the "official" bar of DHS grads is, I'd guess that most if not all of them would answer Mr. D's.

I may be wrong, but f you were to ask Proctor grads the same question, I'd guess that they'd say the Powerhouse is their official territory. I don't know what Superior's official turf would be, but I'm sure one exists.

Here's my question: Is there an "official" bar for Central or East alumni? Because if there is one, I have no idea what it would be.

Informal survey time....if there was a place you could go have access to a dry heated auto shop, tools, a nearby auto parts store..place to properly dispose of you spent oil, possibly a lift......would you use it? Do you know how to do engine work but need a place to do it? Would you share your time with others? Please be so kind to give me some feedback on the efficacy of a Vehicle Maintenance Co-Op.

Djembe?

So I just purchased a djembe drum. The only problem is, I have no percussion background, and very little musical background (I played piano for 6 years but was terrible at it). So why did I buy a djembe? Well I thought they looked like fun, I love the sound of drums, and I would love to be able to sit around a campfire with my musician friends and jam out. It may be a lofty goal for someone like me, but anything is possible, right? And if I'm just a natural disaster, it always makes cool decoration.

I've heard it's fairly difficult to learn on your own...and I don't learn well that way anyway. So, does anyone know anybody in Duluth that gives djembe lessons? (another longshot...) Or any other way to learn how to play from the ground up around D-town?

house!

Hello fellow Duluthians! After renting here for about five and a half years, I've decided to put down some more permanent roots and buy a house. And despite the charming graphic a few posts down, I'm looking to buy in the Hillside.

Does anybody have any recommendations for realtors, particularly one that not going to hate me for buying a $65,000 house that won't net them a very big commission? My only caveat is that I'd rather stay away from Gables and Ivy, since I had a bad experience renting from them (landlord couldn't have cared less about the property, didn't even mention broken light fixtures or leaky roofs until the day we were moving in, didn't care if the other tenants blatantly violated the lease, etc.) and I've heard from some other people who were similarly unimpressed with Gables and Ivy.

But I'd like to hear your opinions, good and bad, about any real estate companies/agents that you've dealt with.

Thanks!

Technical question

I'm visiting family in my hometown near Milwaukee, and today while cleaning and sorting in my old bedroom I uncovered a stack of 5.25-inch floppy disks with educational games like Oregon Trail, Number Munchers and something called Zoyon Patrol - all stuff from the company callled MECC.

Also on the disks: A word processing program called EZFrEd, a simulation game called Rice Farmer, the games Where in Time is Carmen Sandiego and Epyx's The Games (Olympics theme), and a bunch of disks with files I saved (though I have no idea what they were). All of these disks were used on Apple computers back in the day (IIe, II GS)

It would be fun to somehow access the games / data on these disks, but I'm wondering if there is any way (external drive?) to use these disks on a modern Mac computer. Is there any compatibility? If so, is it prohibitively costly / time-intensive? Any guidance would be appreciated.

Any Lawyers out there?

I try to stay away from the Duluth Citizens Blog and for the most part I am successful. Even when one of the "moderators" took on the moniker of Starfire. I politely wrote in to the good ol DCB to suggest that there may be some confusion in using that name but did not receive a response. So I mostly let it go but today when I dropped in to see if there was any discussion of Homegrown I found the following post.

Starfire-Imposter.jpg

Now this person is claiming to be me which I guarantee is not the case. I have contacted the domain owner who claims to only be the "web designer." So I am wondering if there just might be a lawyer out there in PDD land that I could consult with on what actions I could take to stop this. I realize that this is exactly the drama that the DCB wants by doing this but it really bugs me that they are stealing my identity for such a piece of crap website.

Also I am 40 today which makes me pretty much middle aged.

Monday Night Board Gaming & Help Make a Short Video!

We had so much fun board gaming this past Monday night, let's do it again! We'll meet at Dragon Port at 6:30 and we'll play whatever people bring. Ticket to Ride (USA, Marklin, and Eurpoe) and other games were mentioned.

Also, this weekend is Dragon Port's grand opening! Dragon Port Games & Comics is located at 3 South 4th Avenue West, pretty much it's the only thing between Michigan and Superior on 4th Avenue West so it's hard to miss.

Further, I'd like your assistance in making a short video that I'll subsequently post to PDD. I'm making it on my Mac so pretty much all you have to do is stare at the little cam and say a line or maybe two. I was thinking, originally, of playing all the parts myself, but I thought it would be more fun to get other PDD folks involved. If you're interested here's the script: Blogger X - A Drama.

So you can come for the gaming, come for the grand opening, come for the movie, or any combination of the three!

Missing Dog: Brittan

Hey guys, I read this blog a lot but don't really post, but now I do hoping for a little help. Our family dog Brittan went missing this evening around 14th Ave E. and 10th St. After searching for several hours we had to give up due it being incredibly dark and foggy.

He is 15 years old, and his senses are failing. He may not respond to calling his name (Brittan) because he can't hear well. He is about 35 pounds, and as you can see reddish color with a white stomach. He should be wearing a green collar with all his info on it. If you find him please either call the number on his tags, or email me at [email protected] (or you can just comment on this entry I guess)

Thanks for you help, if you have any questions about him because I forgot to mention something feel free to ask.

Moving Advice

I am going to be moving back into Duluth from Two Harbors this summer and I'd like some recommendations.

1) What internet service are you using and would you recommend it? I can't go back to dial up. Good, fast, reliable service is a priority for me.

2) If you have recommendations on TV services I'm open. I've pretty much told the kids if they want cable it can come out of their allowance. I just don't watch TV enough for it to be worth it.

3) What waste removal service do you use and would you recommend it?

bdrivebanner3.jpg

I love the rotating PDD banners. We all love the rotating PDD banners. But a few of us had a discussion last week and came to the conclusion that it's time for some freshening up around here. So here's what we're gonna do:

1) Make new banners! Get out there and click, scan, whatever. These photos must be your originals and they must be locally relevant. They can be old or new, as long as they haven't been banners before.

2) Upload your banners to the new directory, /headers08/. (Same old technique - if you've done it before, you can do it again.)

3) When we get a good number of new banners in the new directory, we'll switch over to all-new banners. I'll keep the old directory intact, and sometime in the future after we've all forgotten the old banners, we can switch back for nostalgia's sake.

Big Family Bed...

We're in need of an extension to our family bed...at present, our family futon is getting a little cramped. Fortunately, I have two futons. Unfortunately, I only have one frame. I have our bed temporarily set up in the big bedroom and suffice to say it's pretty much wall to wall bed...which is good, considering the amount of room that Hazel requires to get a good night's sleep.

If anyone has a fairly generic frame of the tri fold variety that they would be willing to part with for free and/or cheap, I'd gladly take it offa your hands.

Harriers Wanted:

harelogo.jpg

So, I'm going out on a limb here to try to establish a Hash Kennel here in Duluth. Hash House Harriers can only be described as a "drinking club with a running problem."

I used to hash when I was in the Navy many many moons ago, and now that I'm sort of interested in picking up the activity again (running), I find myself unable to commit to the more structured "hoity toity" type running groups.

Hashing is a ton of fun, and the more the merrier. It plays out like a follow the leader run with "hares" marking the course with a 10 minute (or so) head start, and the rest of the pack (hashers) in pursuit. There is most always beer and other libations at the completion of the run, and members of the kennel (hash group) get to have nicknames (which, by the by, is the origin of my post handle...in.dog.neato.)

This entry is twofold, so please bear with me:

house seeker

My daughter is coming to town and going to school at UMD this January. She needs to find a place to rent. She's a country whippersnacker . Never lived in the big city . You 've seen those barrel races , some of the riders pull back on the reins, when she see's the corner she dives into it . She has an understanding of global Warming and many of the other ramifications of what's happening today. SHe told me she wanted a place that she could study. I would interpet that as that's what she needs, to do what she want's to do. She has a cowboy. She is paying her own way, coming in as a junior. Help!

I bought Hazel a really warm snowsuit at Toys R Us down in the Cities. When I got home, we realised that they hadn't taken the sensor tag off the jacket part. Does anyone know how or have a way to take those off without ruining the jacket?

Ely needs an MRI

welylogo.JPGmri.jpg

Ely's hospital (Ely-Bloomenson) is in serious need of a new MRI...but these suckers are 'spensive!
Fortunately they're in the running for a new machine, but here's the catch: there's an online contest to award some lucky community hospital the new machine.

it runs on votes (of course) so naturally, the hospital with the most votes wins...

SO...community conscious PDDers...head on over to WELY.com and click the link, watch the vid and vote...

please.

Actors Needed

chickenhamlet2.jpgOne day commitment!

Morning: Get script.
Afternoon: Practice, practice, practice.
Evening: Perform.
Night: Party, party, party.

What could be better?

Out of the Hat 10 could use a few more actors on Friday (Nov. 9) and the more the merrier on Saturday (Nov. 10). Again, it's only a one day commitment and it's a lot of fun. Contact Brian Matuszak for more information.

Oh, and when you perform on Saturday you have a roughly 1 out of 8 chance of performing a script written by our new mayor. You have the same odds of performing a script that I've written, but don't think about that right now.

I am looking for a free program that can edit MP3's. I basically just want to cut some parts of a song out and have a workable 30 second snippet. I thought that with all the music and tech savvy people on here, that someone might have some ideas. I realize I could probably Google it but would prefer to get some input on what works the best.

Help

I have been trying to post a picture to a construction help blog. They want the URL of the picture I guess. What and how do I get that and also is that something I should do. It's a good site. And also while I'm at it ,how about this and you have my permission to make fun. I've never had a credit card and because I'm ordering materials online It just isn't right to keep going to my friends. Is this something you can get different deals ? What would be the best card for that and also traveling abroad. Should you stay with a major card

Thanks Frank

Looking for children's books

Our Charitable Crafters group is looking to find new and gently used kids books for our Stuff a Stocking project. We're aiming at ages newborn through middle school. We're also looking for coloring books. People can drop their books off at Yarn Harbor next to the Mt Royal Library, Fabric Works on Tower Ave in Superior, the craft department at the Hermantown Wal-mart, and Tinderbox, across the avenue from Fon-du-Luth Casino. For more info, check out our website at www.charitablecrafters.org. Thanks!

name that blog!

I need your blogging expertise for an art car project. I have a 1996 black 4door geo tracker that is starting to rust away. I'm not ready to give it up yet as I love this little car. It's gone across the country, climbed up the tallest mountain in CO, pulled numerous people out the snow, and never fails to impress me, even when I think it's going to die. It's not the prettiest thing anymore (slightly better looking than the image below) so I decided to let others make it pretty for me.

I'm going to be spraypainting Pepe with chalkboard paint and having my friend weld a metal box to the back door that will hold chalk. I'm going to encourage people to draw whatever they want on Pepe (within reason of course). I'll continue to take pictures and upload them to the blog. Additionally, I will encourage people to take a photo of them next to their completed piece and send it to me. If they took video of them chalking my car, that would be great too.

Aunts can be great

So can I use my fifteen dollar birthday check for steak dinner ONLY and/or anything I want for lunch (chicken, fish, etc.) , or does the "steak" modify both dinner and lunch? Also where can I get a steak for fifteen buckaroos?

I need a door.

Strange request here, but does anyone have a spare door sitting around that they would give away, or sell for a nomial fee?

See, my current rental has great space for two living rooms, only all the sound out of one seems to bounce around and funnel into the second. So anytime I want to watch a movie or anything, and the other room is being utilized (which has been about 28 of the last 30 nights), the extra sound drives me effin nuts and and I can't focus on whatever movie I'm trying to watch. It has a door frame going into it, which would be enough to kill the sound, just no door to actually block it.

And type of wood/color/finish/condition will do. It only needs to exist for about the next seven-eleven months, at which point I'll be dumping it, or burning it. Standard interior door size. Current ones measure at ~31.5 inches x ~79 inches.

You'd be doing me the great service of being able to get actual value out of my Netflix account by being able to watch more then 1-2 movies a month.

Crunch!

My neighbor ran into my car while it was parked on the street. Now I'm doomed to entering through the passenger side until this gets fixed.

Does anyone have any recommendations for which body shop to choose, or which to avoid?

Hot Fun In The Summertime

paddling.jpg

So, my niece (11-going on 16) is coming to visit this weekend from the cities. She's been coming to Duluth and/or Washburn for the past 5 years for her annual escape from family and city living for a more relaxed and great outdoorish experience. My wife has a Canoe-Brule trip planned and I'm sure she can/has/will plan the rest of the weekend. For once, I'd like to contribute something to this little soiree and have some kind of influence in the proceedings. Unfortunately, I'm fresh out of ideas and am looking for a little help. Maybe something a little oddball but not too weird and distinctly Twin Ports/Western Lake Superior.

Biffy in a Jiffy?

Scary Potty

Before I start calling for quote requests - does anyone know what the average price per day is to rent a port-a-potty? And/or, the best place to rent one in Duluth?

A Friend In Need (Is A Friend, Indeed)

I normally wouldn't post something like this here, but I thought it would be a really good resource in this case. This is for a friend, not myself. If you can help out or know someone who can, just comment! Thanks, guys.

For 4-6 weeks, i'm seeking to rent a furnished room in Duluth in a house or private apartment that has a tuned piano (with permission to play it). I'm male, 44, a non-smoker. (I would consider a housesitting or pet-sitting arrangement in exchange for rent-reduction.) I need a room starting July 15 and lasting until at least August 15, maybe August 30 (if later than that, we can talk). I'm heading to play on a cruise ship in September and need to practice, so if you don't want your piano played, i wouldn't be good to have around.

I have excellent references. I'd probably want to do a weekly rental, price negotiable.

Cri de coeur

A shout out to PDD, which is fantastic--no, no, don't blush. I moved here last August and can’t imagine what I would have done without it. Thus, this post.

While I have fallen in love with Duluth, I’m pretty sure it doesn’t even have a crush on me. To wit: after nearly a year here, I keep running into a blank wall when I try to make social contacts, or even, gulp, friends. I’ve met a lot of people here...but they don’t seem interested in returning my calls, or going to events that I’ve tried to plan. One Duluthian even told me that his friends weren’t really comfortable meeting new people.

I just can’t believe that somewhere as cool as Duluth, with such a positive artist:seagull ratio, can really be so inhospitable to people not To The Hillside Born. So I’m turning to the (virtually) warm and welcoming community of PDD to ask: what advice would you give to a newcomer trying to integrate here? How did you meet your last stranger? [Difficulty: no community college classes.]

A to the C.

I tried looking for a nifty graphic to go along with this post but...it's hot, so...meh.

When I lived in Tacoma, during the dog days of summer, a bunch of us would pile into my Toyota and head over to the dollar theater and spend all. day. long. there. One summer, I think I must have sat through Jurassic Park and Aladdin a total of seventy three times. Each.

I've heard the India Palace has the best Air Conditioning in town...judging from the condensation that forms on my glasses after stepping outside from there, I'm inclined to agree.

To wit: Anyone else have any suggestions on where to go for quality air conditioning?

Viewcrest Voices

choir.gif

I am in need of a keyboardist to accompany a group of nursing home residents who have just formed a choir that they have named Viewcrest Voices. They are really really excited about this! They will be performing a concert on July 19, 2007 at 7pm.
The person who accompanies them should have some experience with accompanying a choir (but not necessary), a good sense of humor and a high tolerance for senior citizens who forget things from week to week (both very necessary.) Rehearsals are generally at 9:30am on Thursday mornings at Viewcrest and last about an hour. There will be more rehearsals scheduled as we get closer to the concert. The song list is below - I have sheet music for the songs. (Except for the children's' songs.) The theme of the concert is "A Lifetime In Song." The position is paid. Please email me at pyntatyahoodotcom or leave your email in the comments if you are interested or willing or need more information.
Ideally, we would also like a guitarist and a drummer to round out the group, so if you're one of those and you're interested at all, please email me as well.

What, me work?

milton_nervous.jpg

So everybody knows the job market in Duluth sucks right? Well that's tough because I'm coming back from my sophomore year pretty soon and I was rather hoping to have some kind of money making thing to do. Preferably something interesting that might provide a certain amount of job experience toward employment in the future.

Does this kind of thing exist? I'm going to Tokyo next semester and the word is that its kinda pricey over there.

In Search of Blogs

I used to have quite a long list of blogs that I would read every day. But you know what? So many of those bloggers have either started slacking or given up entirely. So what I'm wondering is: What blogs do you read?

Mostly, I read Dooce and Blurbomat, Que Sera Sera, Massdistraction, Fimoculous, and Cheek. I also watch Detrimentalevison, which is awesome.

This is a nice chunk of reading, but I feel the need for new blood. It's hard to find unfamiliar blogs.

Any suggestions? Who do you read, and (this is important) why?

Time for a trim...

Last haircut I had was...christ...four or five years ago...it's tangly, it knots up frequently and quite frankly, I'm getting kinda tired of having so much of it.

Hence, I'm about due.

I'm not fuddy duddy about my locks...just a straightline cut right up to the shoulders...chopping off about eight inches of my mane.

Problem is...I'm not up to spending 20 bucks just to have someone whack at my hair, when there's not a lot that can be done...I don't style...I don't fuss...thus, I don't require an expensive treatment...

Anyone have an Idea as to...who or where I can get a decent trim...?

Framing Advice

I finally finished painting my living room and now I need to hang some stuff on the walls. I have a print that needs to be framed. Does anyone know of any framing/art stores that have decent prices or know of any artist types who do it as a side job?

PEZ location

I am not new to PDD, but I am new to posting. I had problems posting a comment to the PEZ post, so I'll relay the information this way:
I do not know whether the Ms. Claus PEZ is there, but J. Skylark in the top floor of the DeWitte Seitz building had a formidable PEZ display. If you cannot find it there, you will likely not find it anywhere in Duluth. They also have lots of cool stocking stuffers (i got my wife a Holy Toast bread stamper, so she can have an image of Mary under her marmalade every morning. Finally, thanks to Ezra and Tamara for saving Christmas for me (or $50 anyway). Looks like I won the turkey sweepstakes, so I can cancel that ham order. Now if only I knew how to cook a turkey.

All I want for Christmas....

Mrs. Claus PEZ.gif

There's a new Christams PEZ, Mrs. Claus, and I have yet to find her in Duluth. If you see her, please get her for me and I'll repay you!

PEZ on earth,

Purple

CHRIST ON A CRUTCH!

So I was all set to download some music from my favorite music download site, Allofmp3.com, when I found out that I had run out of credit. I like buying music from All of MP3, because it's a Russian site run by a Russian Mafia company, and therefore the prices are, shall we say, discounted.

I click over to the payment option and find that lo and behold, Visa and Mastercard are boycotting All of MP3. Oh, sure, you can still purchase music from All of MP3. If you happen to have a Diner's Club card. Apparantly I'm wrong about this, but I thought Diner's Club went out of business circa 1979.

My question is this: Where can a person go to purchase MP3s at a decent price? I would even pay the prices on iTunes, for that matter, but I'm fed up with the restrictions they place on you. I've heard similar things about the alternative big name sites.

Where do you get your MP3s? I'm not interested in CDs, so that's not an option.

Don't turn around...uh oh...

Der Kommissar's in town...uh oh...

falco.jpg

Tamara's post about tv show tunes got me started thinking about those pesky pop songs that get inextricably wedged in the front of your mind...songs like "The Hustle" or "Close To You" or "Rock and Roll part 2."

Right now, the dagger in my mind has been...Der Kommissar...

What's that tune you can't seem to shake, no matter how much you drink?

Franken on Letterman

So last night, Al Franken was on Letterman, and Dave told (on Al's behalf) a Buddy Hackett joke which apparently is also told in some new documentary. Because the joke was risque (I guess), they bleeped out the punchline. I highly doubt that a documentary about Al Franken will be playing in Colorado, so ... somebody please fill in the blanks.

(And, by the way, anyone want to start a pool on when the "Duluth Answer Man" ads will begin surfacing on TV once Franken decides he will run for senate?)

I Need a Woodsmith

My beloved Speed Graphic is in need of a new lens board or four. They are incredibly simple to make for anyone with basic woodworking skills & tools. I've made them in the past when I've had access to nice table saws and such that are equipment with guides and whatnot, but have recently come to terms with the fact that I am completely inept with the hand tools I have available, and don't want to buy anything fancy for one little project. For someone with the materials, tools and/or skill, they shouldn't take more then an hour of your time build.

The blueprints are here (See, I said they're simple), and would be willing to exchange several of them for maybe some of my prints, or a few government issued George Washington portraits.
