Learn more about the biodiversity of the Sax-Zim Bog and help document undocumented species at the 12th annual Bog BioBlitz. Options include an emphasis on insects, spiders, butterflies, birds, plants, galls, moths, aquatic species and fungi. Participants will choose their field trip and spend the day learning, exploring and documenting what they find. The Center of American Indian & Minority Health has partnered with multiple community organizations to host the third annual Mino Bimaadizi Community Science and Medicine Fair. Mino bimaadizi is the Ojibwe translation for “be well.” There will be hands-on science and medicine exhibits, Baaga'adowewin (traditional lacrosse), performances, a plant walk, an Ojibwe language table, a community feast and more.

A volunteer cleanup day on the Piping Plover Wildlife Sanctuary on Wisconsin Point with project Leader Mikayla Erickson and a small group of master naturalists. Participants will handle non-local invasive species (such as tansy) and clear the Piping Plover’s nesting area of unwanted vegetation. This three-day workshop series (August 30, 31 and September 1) begins with a slideshow and discussion about night photography, camera control and techniques at Larsmont Cottages' Lake Room. Bring camera gear for this technical session and head to the shoreline to practice these techniques and then edit the results. All skill levels are welcome. The community is invited to an opening celebration for Gibiskising-minis azhe-dibinaweziwin, a restoration planning process led by the Fond du Lac Band of Lake Superior Chippewa. Those able to walk the beach should park at Lot 5, near the lighthouse. Elders and those with limited mobility may park near the end of the point. Opening remarks and refreshments will be followed by small group walking tours and opportunities for discussion and input until 6 p.m.
