The Twin Ports Aruna 5K Walk/Run raises money for the Aruna Project, which combats human trafficking. Participants run for a specific enslaved woman who the project is working to free, employ and empower. The Aruna Sport Duffle, hand-made by Aruna Artisans, will be awarded to the top female finisher, top male finisher and top fundraiser, in addition to a $50 Aruna Shop gift card. The second annual Gunflint Scramble is a competitive mountain-biking event on the Gunflint Trail. The 20-mile course takes racers on a system of mowed ski trails, snowmobile trails and forest roads, as well as a section of single-track trails. The race is hosted by Bearskin Lodge & Outfitters. The University of Wisconsin-Superior holds a celebration for Indigenous Peoples’ Day at the Maawanji’idiwin (“The Place Where We Come Together”) Medicine Wheel and Community Gathering Area located in the courtyard near the Yellowjacket Union. This family-friendly event is free and open to the community. Following the ceremony, UW-Superior students will showcase a drum group and exhibition. In the event of inclement weather, this celebration will move indoors to the Yellowjacket Union.
