The Lake Superior National Estuarine Research Reserve and the Friends of the Lake Superior Reserve are hosting a spotted knapweed removal on Wisconsin Point and are looking for volunteers. Community members of all ages are invited to the point to support healthy ecosystems for local, native plants. No prior experience with knapweed is required. A customer and veteran appreciation benefit that raises funds to support veterans experiencing homelessness both in Minnesota and in Wisconsin. The event is being hosted by the Minnesota Action Council for Veterans and helps support the Wisconsin Soldiers and Sailors relief fund. The 10th annual Operation K-9 highlights the work of K-9s from five area law-enforcement agencies. K-9 teams from the Duluth, Hermantown and Superior police departments and the St. Louis County and Douglas County sheriff’s offices will join forces, demonstrating their abilities.
