Retribution Gospel Choir – “Seven”

Southwire – “God”

Started off like it was going to be something

For about four hours there were blizzard conditions, but then the whole thing died out. It leaves us wondering whether this storm was worth naming or not.

Mont du Lac Snowboarding Video!

This is a video of Mitch Larson (and a couple others) snowboarding at Mont du Lac!  Mitch is a coach for “TheCrew,” which is dedicated to providing a fun and safe place for snowboarders of all ages to learn the art of freestyle snowboarding.

They have an upcoming two-day slopestyle skiing/snowboarding event at Mont Du Lac on Feb. 16 and 17.  For more info about the event you may visit dulaccrewfest.com.

Enjoy the video and feel free to tell me what you think of it!

Outside magazine presents online screening of Wild Bill’s Run

This is your best chance to see local documentary and Arctic crime caper Wild Bill’s Run. It’s screening on Outside’s website on Thursday evening, Feb. 7. You can watch the film anytime between 6 and 9pm (Central Time). Director Mike Scholtz will be hanging out in the comments section at the bottom of the page, waiting for people to ask him questions he can’t answer about snowmobile repair, climate change and the whereabouts of Wild Bill Cooper.

The Perilous Inlet

Three years in the making, the completed 14-minute masterpiece.

I suggest watching it with the sound off since we could not eliminate the camera noise without losing the underwater noises.

The perilous inlet is a death trap for ships and subs, yet life continues. Starring Playmobil toys, G.I. Joes, and introducing Lake Superior as itself.

We’ve released this in segments over time, so if you’re sick of it do NOT watch this final edit. Featuring the Playmobil ship vs. the giant alligator, the Playmobil sub vs. the giant squid, and the GI Joes vs. frozen existential horror, now with more death.

Cult – Feature film to be shot in Duluth

Hi, my name is Lance Karasti. I’m currently working on a feature film about an extremist cult that is manipulated by their insane leader into performing a group suicide. Two of the members try to stop it and break down how things got that bad. The film examines many themes, and is a character study of the cult leader.

Kickstarter campaign to fund Snobarn’s debut album

For the past 56 days of their Kickstarter fundraising campaign, members of the local band Snobarn have been working their tails off. They’ve been playing live sets (upward of a dozen during the past two months), doing interviews on radio and TV, and madly promoting their cause via social media. Now, more than ever, time is of the essence. Their online fundraising window on Kickstarter will finally close late Sunday night (or very early Monday morning), Feb. 4, at precisely 2:35 a.m.

Cold weather experiments at Great Lakes Aquarium

We’ve been conducting a variety of cold weather experiments at Great Lakes Aquarium this week. The location is just about perfect for it; right on the waterfront in Duluth with a door connecting our classroom lab to the outside.

This video should serve as a reminder to make sure your hair and your clothes are completely dry before heading out.

A glimpse of Duluth in 1948

Scenes of Duluth start at the 1:37 mark in this 1948 documentary on Finnish-American life in Wisconsin, Minnesota and South Dakota. (Thanks to Dwight Swanson for the tip.)

Jambox – 01.18

When is the Friday night 2AM Jambox snowboard video in the Central Hillside going to get posted? Six people pulling a snowboarder back on a bungie to go off a makeshift ramp onto a dumpster, over a wall, and down to the old Daugherty Hardware parking lot. Awesome. Props to the snow removal guy in the Bobcat that freaked them all out until he explained he wanted to help them move snow for a better landing.

The Subjectivity Spill

The UMD Anomalies Dept. dispatched two Morphogenetic Field Technicians to Professor Marrow’s hillside home, surveying the contamination from a novel form of radiation.

Tiffany Tarrolly and Pageant Police

Former Northland’s NewsCenter reporter Tiffany Tarrolly’s new project is called “Pageant Police,” a video series critiquing the physical beauty of contestants in the 2013 Miss USA pageant.

(This post originally contained an embedded video of the “Miss Maryland USA 2013 Critique.” We have removed the video in the interest of not giving it any more attention.)

The concept of the series is essentially to say mean things about the physical appearance of women who are in pageants. So anyone annoyed by women who are in pageants can experience something worse: women who say mean things about women who are in pageants.

The only thing more annoying would be me, for posting this, but I’ll soon be eclipsed in the annoying rankings by everyone who watches this video and then comments on it.
