The real thing?

While walking downtown today I noticed this painted billboard. It’s on First Street, east of First Avenue East.

I don’t remember seeing it before; maybe that’s because it’s facing opposite of the one-way traffic on First Street. In any case, has it always been there? Is it authentic? Restored? A reproduction?

Looking for used or cheap lumber/plywood

We are looking to put up a chicken coop in our yard and would like to do so as cheaply as possible. Is there a reuse center in Duluth or other place to get cheap wood?

Road tripping this summer?

Why not take a tour of some of the weirdest and most fascinating places out there? A recently started website, Atlas Obscura, is collecting and mapping the weird and wonderful places in the world. MN only has a few so far. I’m a fan of Weird WI but I really like that this is a ongoing wiki to collect the odd and unusual places of the world.  I’m guessing that PDD folks know of all the best places here in MN and WI so add some stuff.  Then when the kids ask “Are we going to Valley Fair?” you can tell them “No, even better.  We’re headed to Dutch Corners Phillips, WI to see Fred Smith’s Wisconsin Concrete Park.”

So which state has the weirdest stuff? MN or WI? I’m leaning toward WI.

Jeopardy!

I got a kick out of a Jeopardy! contestant’s response when describing where White Bear Lake was located. She said that it’s north of the Twin Cities and that, after Duluth, “… there’s Canada.”

Seeking Tailor

I’m looking for someone willing and able to do some alterations to a formal (read: hideous taffeta) bridesmaid dress. You’d have about a month. Anyone interested? Email shana(at)shrugrecords.net

Identical cousins?

white_cars

I was at 26th Avenue East and London Road when I saw these two cars. They’re a little unusual, so I thought it was funny to see two together. The question that lingers for me: Is it possible these people are together? Do friends ever buy the same kind of car so they’ll match?

Speaking of Anniversaries …

It’s been one year since Starfire’s 100 Pushup Challenge. Did anyone make it? I’m still stuck on week four of the workout. Six weeks? Yeah, right!

Factuals

Just saw this band at the thirsty pagan. Brought me back to when I grew up. Cover tunes, but are they something you can’t do. Great guitars. People carried tables out for dancing great guitar work, both from Barry and Jim. you could wish you could play so good. Hot rod you would like them.

Fun workout helping out: Sat 6/27

Hi

We need a few volunteers on our next food distribution day for our 100% volunteer-run non-profit food buying club. The semi will come to the Mariner Mall in Superior over by the theatres  on Saturday June 27 at 8:30 AM. It takes about 45 min to unload the pallets and bring them into the storefront we use that day.  The produce assortment  is then pre-packed into recycled plastic grocery bags for distribution that afternoon.  All said, it would be 2 hours of service. Other volunteers, many who are seniors and cannot lift boxes of food,  come in around 10:30 to prepare orders to be delivered to senior apt buildings and other homebound people, as well as 300 other households who come to the Mall to pick up their order.  SHARE is open to everyone– no age or income requirements. Anyone interested in helping??

Organics

I wish to educate Duluthians on the importance of eating organic and would like to show people who are already eating organic a great resource that can help give you more of a selection of USDA certified organic foods because as you know (or should know) all (so called) ORGANICS  are not created equal. Would anyone be interested in a meeting in Duluth on organics and a  free organic food tasting? If I get enough people interested I will find a place to hold it or if you would like to host it in your home you can get some organic food free! Please let me know if you just want more info. Thanks, Vicki
