Two versions of “Love My Lips”

The Christian children’s television series VeggieTales referenced Duluth in the 1996 episode “Dave and the Giant Pickle.” A regular feature on the show is a segment called “Silly Songs with Larry,” in which Larry the Cucumber and other Veggie characters sing a silly song.

Superior Siren – Cover songs from 56 Brewing

Minnesota-based video production company Headwaters Entertainment produced three music videos of Duluth band Superior Siren performing cover songs at 56 Brewing in Minneapolis back in May. The audio mix is by Conduit Sound. Above is “Everything is Free,” written by Gillian Welch. The other two videos are below.

“The Begat” from the musical Finian’s Rainbow

The 1947 Broadway musical Finian’s Rainbow featured the song “The Begat,” which included a reference to Duluth. It’s at the 1:24 mark in the clip above from the original Broadway cast album, featuring Jerry Laws, Lorenzo Fuller and Louis Sharp.

Rich Mattson and the Northstars – “What’s Your Story?”

The latest music video from Rich Mattson and the Northstars features home-movie travel footage, edited by Reggie Pype. The track is from the album Totem, released in January.

The band plays a street show in Virginia on July 11 with Horse Fzce and Charlie Parr.

The Slice: Harbor Symphony #2

Ships and foghorns create a misfit symphony in the Duluth-Superior Harbor.

In its series The Slice, WDSE-TV presents short “slices of life” that capture the events and experiences that bring people together and speak to what it means to live up north. Composer credit for this clip goes to photographer Ted Pellman.

The Felice Brothers – “Aerosol Ball”

The Felice Brothers note that “every tooth in Duluth is Baby Ruth-proof,” in this track from their 2016 album Life in the Dark.

The Richardson brothers vs. the Alexy brothers

The Duluth-based Richardson brothers (Jim and Allen) have a longstanding creative relationship with the Duluth-based Alexy brothers (Teague and Ian). Most recently, Jim (aka Lake Superior Aquaman) has a cameo in the new video “Everybody’s Got A Baby But Me” by Alexy bros. project, Hobo Nephews of Uncle Frank.

More Then Merry – “Duluth”

Oshkosh trio More Then Merry released a song called “Duluth” on the 2017 album Long Live Vinyl.

Ann Kathryn – “Papier Mache”

Recently released to the web, Tomas Soderberg’s video for the Ann Kathryn song “Papier Mache,” produced for the Homegrown Music Video Festival.

Beyondbliss – “Super Computer”

New song by Duluthian/Alaskan Beyondbliss, produced by Boi King Koi.

Trampled by Turtles – “Duluth”

The fourth studio album from Duluth band Trampled by Turtles featured this title track. Duluth was released on Oct. 30, 2008.

Perfect Duluth Day Outdoor Summer Concert Primer 2019

Ky-Mani Marley headlines the 14th annual Bayfront Reggae & World Music Festival in Duluth.

It’s a narrow season — mid June to mid September — but music promoters in the region do their best to fill the open air with tunes while weather permits. This year’s shaping up to be as jam-packed with giggage as ever, with more than 130 outdoor shows in the region.
