Security Jewelers is auctioning one of its sponsor entries to Grandma’s Half Marathon on eBay. One hundred percent of proceeds go to the Duluth Art Institute’s program Art for Ed’s Sake, offering visual and media arts classes in Duluth Public Schools.
There are still about a dozen hotel rooms available on Canal Park for the weekend of the NorthShore Inline Marathon, Sept. 13-14, so call soon.

Saturday, Sept. 14, will be the inaugural Tunnel 10K running race, starting at Fifth Avenue West and heading east on the freeway through the tunnels. At the 5K point you will turn around and finish where you started. This race is part of the Northshore Inline Marathon series of races. There is also a half-marathon running event, a half-marathon skating event, a 26.2 mile roller-skiing marathon and, of course, the race that made us famous, the 26.2-mile Northshore Inline Marathon.

To raise money to help complete the Joe Gomer statue at the new Duluth International Airport, Security Jewelers is auctioning an entry to the Garry Bjorklund/Grandma’s Half Marathon. This is a totally sold out event and 100 percent of proceeds will go to help honor this true American hero who was a member of the Tuskegee Air force. Saturday, Sept. 11 will be the 15th running (skating) of the fastest show on eight wheels. Skate 26.2 miles from Two Harbors to Duluth on one of the most scenic racecourses this side of Hawaii. It is not too late to sign up or volunteer.
I have one entry left for Grandma’s Half Marathon. First one to call Security Jewelers 218-722-6633 (ask for Carrie or Wynette) and is willing to make a check out SMDC Childrens Hospital for $150 gets it. $75 of the $150 is tax deductible.
I have auctioned these entries on ebay in the past with proceeds always going to local nonprofits and usually get anywhere from $300-$1,000. $150 is a bargain for this sold out event and it goes to a great cause.
Melody Saleh a two-time breast cancer survivor had set a recovery goal of running The Garry Bjorklund Half Marathon. She entered the lottery to get a spot in the race but unfortunately did not get selected.

If you or somebody you know were not selected in the lottery for the Garry Bjorklund Half Marathon, there is one more chance to obtain an entry! Security Jewelers, a dedicated Grandma’s Marathon sponsor, has graciously chosen to auction off the half marathon entry that they receive in return for sponsoring Grandma’s Marathon weekend. The auction is being held on eBay, and 100% of the proceeds will be donated to the Junior League of Duluth to assist in their efforts to restore Playfront Park, an extremely popular park located on Duluth’s waterfront and used by citizens and tourists alike.
