Brian Olson’s mural of the Palace Theater

PalaceHistoricalSociety34

Two blocks from the site of the old Palace Theater in Superior is the new Palace Theater, a painting of the old one. Brian Olson created this mural on the back side of the Douglas County Historical Society building.

Pretty sweet.

By the way, there's a new Italian Restaurant opening soon next to where the Palace Theater was. It's called Sclavi's.

Excellent and here's hoping Mayor Ross burns his eyes on it. Who is this Brian Olson?
Here's some other cool 3D art:

The obvious answer is that Brian Olson is a very talented local artist. I worked on a house with him a couple years ago. I slopped the paint on the walls and he did all the fancy stuff. It's really amazing what he can do. He also did the murals at Black Water Lounge and the mural on the side of the gas station/Sammys Pizza on Arlington and Central Entrance. I'm sure some others on here know about other things he's done.

What we're looking at is the wrecking balls first strike against the old theater, infamously preserved upon its future rubble.

Actually, I heard that the wrecking ball's first strike on the Palace Theater bounced off without doing much damage.

1101 John Ave.

It's two blocks off Tower Avenue from where the Palace Theater was.

I ran across that painting after the pride parade while his scaffolding was still up and took some pics.
Nice to know the info on it now and see it completed.
Very well done.

The work is pop art at best, 3d art can be cool but this artist failed to capture the beauty of the palace theatre in his hey days..I would give it a C- at best....but then again I have a thing against pop artist...

I would like to now see some of Kirsten's art, to see what an A+ is supposed to look like.

I agree with Barrett. Is Kirsten just an armchair critigue...

It's refreshing to see a nice picture in such a blighted area , so glad that gay artist can express themselves freely in Douglas County, this artist is a credit to all gay artist in the area....

Brian

Hey, Thanks to everyone for the comments about the mural. I don't know where Jonathan gets the idea that I'm gay, Im not. Not that there's anything wrong with that!

Recently found out that my cousin paid to have our grandma and his son incorporated into the mural, they're on the lower right.

Yeah talking about payment I heard that Dougls County Paid 10-18k that's right thousands of dollars for this mural, and wow we cant even have a decent soup kitchen for the poor, and Douglas County is spending my hard earn money on this Shit, I hope this "artist" donated a good portion of his fee so that the poor of Superior can have a decent place to eat a meal ! I WANT A REFUND ON MY TAXES!

Paul Lundgren

Really Jimmy? You got that nailed down to $10,000 to $18,000? Somewhere in there? Based on something you heard? That's expert fact finding. Great work!

Let's just say it cost $18,000. You have every right to demand the 42 cents you contributed be returned at once.

Way to cite hearsay there jim jimmy jimbob. yeah...that 42 cents and a smile will buy you...well, it won't buy you much...but at least that'll be 42 cents you didn't have to fork over for something that actually makes your city *look* like it's nothing but a bunch of bars.

Just to be clear for Jimmy!
The mural was paid for 100% by private donors. A small group from the Historical Society on their own time solicited people who had an interest in commemorating the old Palace Theatre. No tax money was used for the project. Let's do some homework before we go on our next rant. You might have gotten a clue from Berv's comment about how his cousin PAID to have his relatives on the painting.
