Help us with a theory

The other day, a friend and I were talking on Facebook about personality types according to Myers-Briggs and we noticed that, just in our circles of Duluth friends, there’s a huge proportion of one type of Myers-Briggs personality.

We then wondered if this was just coincidence or does Duluth have a larger-than-usual percentage of this relatively rare personality type.

So we’re turning to you all to help.

Please take this test (it’s free) and then post your results and the city in which you live. Thanks!

HumanMetrics

The test starts underneath the text box at the top of the page.

Mildly (every characteristic moderately manifested) INFP. Yeah, Duluth. We're all a buncha introverts here, right?

Intuitive Introverts. I'm guessing.

ENFP Duluth

If the majority of your friends or people you know are a certain type, doesn't that just mean that's the type you prefer to be around?

ISTJ, but only barely on the last three.

INTJ - Duluth. I'd say "Introverts Unite!" but it would be contrary to our nature.

EvilResident - if we had a lot of overlap in friends, that'd make sense. However, we don't have a huge overlap in friends nor people that we both regularly hang out with. So it got us thinking.

Thanks for the comments - keep 'em coming!

I was INFJ when i took this test 13 years ago (born & raised Park Pointer). I know some of the features of my personality have evolved over the years and was curious if personality "type" changes. I could not, for the life of me, find the book at the Duluth Public Library. So, thanks for the link. I'll let you know.

INFJ in Duluth. Basically, the older I get, the less I want to hang out with people outside of my workday, and the more I want to read/walk/think about things. I wonder how these ratings play out age-wise and gender-wise?

This time i came out ISFJ, but with "marginal or no preference for Sensing over Intuition." (Only 1%) I didn't learn the percent of my preferences all those years ago. It seems personality type does remain pretty consistent. So far. I'll have to re-test in another decade or so.

If you're interested in more information about your type, mypersonality.info has descriptions of each type that go a little more in depth.

For example, INTJ is the Strategist, and also clearly the best.

Make that ESTP, Duluth. I'm a pre-emptive "submit" clicker and can't find an edit button.

So then you are not ESTP you are PESC.

Also an INTJ

I think I've read that INTJ's a only 1% of population, but looks like a much higher % of PDD followers.

INTJ, which surprises some folks because I am a career teacher. But it is teaching that has taught me the strategies that help me survive in a world biased to the Extroverts.

I'm an xNTP (in Duluth). I'm an "ambivert," so I'm super close in both extroversion and introversion and can go either way. As with emmadogs, as I get older, I am getting more introverted, though. According to Jung's theory, though, your temperament is immutable and should not change over the course of your life. (Your personality will evolve, but your temperament type should be consistent.) However, I've always wondered about that: I've generally tested as slightly more extroverted (on the tests given at jobs or for educational purposes) until the past few years.

I first took this test as part of a homework assignment in college. Before class, I sat next to a woman and we discussed how stupid the test was, and how it seemed like there was really only one answer for each question. You'd have to be an idiot to answer any other way. Then we revealed our temperaments, and she was the exact opposite of me -- she was an ESTJ. For a long time I had a lot of difficulty getting along with SJ temperaments. But now I have several SJ friends. I guess I must have realized that just because you love making plans and I hate making plans, that doesn't mean either one of us is "wrong."

I had a similar story to Barrett's. Before taking the test, my friend and I looked at the 4-sentence summaries of each type, and agreed we were both INFP. When taking the test, I noticed that all of our answers were on exact opposite sides of the scale - clearly one of us had guessed very wrong. She was secretly an ESTJ the whole time!

ISTJ ... on another note, one time my husband and I were both required to take this test. We scored in opposite quadrants as far apart as you can get ... we've been married 30+ years ... LOL (which my husband would never type in any communique!)

Barrett Chase

So, Tamara, will we get a report on what your theory is and whether the PDD crowd's answers support your suspicions?
