Minnesota All Hockey Hair Team 2013

Yes, this weekend marked the crowning moment in Minnesota high school hockey — the opportunity to rank the best flow from the state tourney. Duluth and Hermantown were well represented on 2013 All Hockey Hair Team.

At left, Wyatt Irwin of Duluth East (ranking #8). At right, Jordan Fralich of Duluth Marshall (ranking #5).

Sharing the #3 ranking is the Hermantown Holy Trinity of Joe Muehlbauer, Christain Wasbotten and Jake Zelenikar.

And cheers to the honorable mentions, Brian Bunten and Alex Toscano of Duluth East and Duluth Marshall Head Coach Brendan Flaherty.

Congratulations to all.

I look forward to this every year. Intros with helmets on are such a let down. Thank you!

Wyatt Irwin and Jake Zelenikar raise an interesting question: in years past, have there been any contenders for All Hockey Combination Flowing Hair and Mountain Man Crazy Beard? Given the impressive beards that one sees up here, that would be some competition!

There was some facial hair on the 2012 team, but none of it reached mountain-man status. This year I'd say Zelenikar is close, but Irwin definitely needs a few more weeks before he can claim Grizzly Adams, Jr. level.

That Grizzly Adams. He had a serious beard. And, as I recall, a seriously flowing mane of hair too.

....but it was the 1970s, so actually so did everyone else too (even the women).

Mountain man beard growth is very difficult for guys that young. I noticed that neckbeards, however, were well represented on Hermantown's 2013 lineup.

Just so long as the soul patch has become a thing of the past. Please God.
