Question of the Day.

What won’t you buy used? I have a thing against used sheets, something weird about that. Also underwear (of course) and toilet brushes. How about you?

I guess I must be dumb cuz U had a pocket full of horses
Trojans and some of them used
But it was Saturday night, I guess that makes it all right
And U say - "What have I got 2 lose?"

pretty much stopped buying used pants, too many expired zippers, unless of course it's a sweet vintage pair
was surprised how much used make up sold at my garage sale!

i was thinking of the whole feet thing in general...somebody else's foot grooves have gotta be a bitch to deal with too, but mostly it's the feet.

Shoes can be washed. In the washing machine.

I have a thing against used upholstered furniture. Even though I have a lot of antique/used wood furniture, I get a little skeeved out when it comes to couches, etc.

I guess some of my upholstered furniture is still used, but I got it from people I know, which is completely different. I'd never buy a used couch at a garage sale or Goodwill or anything like that.

I draw the line at personal hygienie products or other intimates, like underwear/lingerie/bras/etc.

Otherwise, your junk may be my treasure, or it may just be my treasure until I look at it in six months and say "why the hell did I pay a nickel for that? Off with you into the thrift box!"

I've bought used shoes, but when hunting for size 15s, you take whatever you can get. Same with Xlong pants and Xtall shirts. That is my excuse for my ridiculously poor sense of fashion. I once passed on a pair of used size 15 swim fins, and later regretted it. Never socks or underwear, although I did buy a wetsuit. Not the thick neoprene wetsuit, it was like a lycra / spandex liner for a wetsuit. I figured that would wash up OK.
We just bought a used couch for the kids to put in the basement, but it was from somebody waaay out in a nice house on a lake. They'd never do anything sketchy on a couch, would they?

i won't buy a used comb. i won't even pick one up off the ground for free.

We accepted a used couch from a local church who for some reason wanted to "help" us very early in our marriage. A few weeks later we noticed that moths were eating our clothes. We looked high and low. Then, C got the idea to spray the couch with some kind of bug spray "just in case" the couch might have had moths. As soon as she stopped spraying, the larvae that came crawling through the fabric was like a scene from Creep Show. 1000s! I don't gag easily, but this was unbelievably gross. She grabbed one end, I grabbed the other and we immediately hauled it outside to be burned. Lesson learned, I guess. BTW, 20 years with the love of my life TODAY!

Good to hear that the flames of your love are still burning like a larvae-infested sofa, Tim K.

A related question to Starfire's "Question of the Day":

If you're showering at a gym or campground and forgot to bring shampoo, but notice a bottle was left in the shower, will you use it?

I usually do, but with great hesitation.

I will use the shampoo, the body wash, but I draw the line at the abandoned luffa. That's just a little on the nasty side.

Used stuffed animals for kids. bleah!

Seven years ago when I was pregnant with #1 I was horrified that people sold used diapers (cloth diapers that is). Then someone pointed out to me that any diaper I got from a diaper service would be used.*

I second the notion that used animals for kids. Ick. My almost 7 YO still mouths stuff. Ick ick ick!

*one a side note, we're now officially out of diapers, anyone want to buy any?

As a frequent Goodwill shopper, Tim K's story has my head reeling.
